The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (the Society) is the statutory body that regulates lawyers in the province of Nova Scotia. It is a member of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, an association of fourteen provincial and territorial bodies that govern the legal profession across Canada.

Under section 28 of the Legal Profession Act, the Society is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal. The Society has the powers and capacity of a natural person to pursue its purposes, which include public access to law and legal information, research, revision, reform, and education in the law, and the administration of justice in the province.

The Society has an Executive Director who, together with the members of the board, set the policy and direction for the Society. The Society also has a committee of lay members who provide advice on issues of importance to the membership, and a library that contains the largest collection of legal literature in the province of Nova Scotia.
